Doing Business in the Turks and Caicos Islands

The Turks and Caicos Islands are a British Overseas Territory. The Constitution Order 2011 provides for an elected Government comprising of a Ministerial Cabinet and an elected House of Assembly.

The territory consists of 40 islands and cays, eight of which are inhabited. The islands are located 550 miles southeast of Miami, Florida, just below the Bahamas chain and just to the east of Cuba and the island of Hispaniola (Dominican Republic and Haiti.)

The islands are home to roughly 30,000 full time residents, and welcome more than 200,000 tourist annually. English is the language of the islands, however there are many creole and Spanish speakers living and working on the islands.

The official currency of Turks and Caicos is the US Dollar. Most hotels, restaurants and taxi services accept travelers’ cheques, which can be cashed at local banks. Most credit cards are accepted and banks offer ATM's as well as cash advances on credit cards.

The Domestic Financial Services Sales Tax is a 10% tax on service fees charged by domestic financial institutions including banks, investment dealers and money transfer companies.
